Outer?
For us that live in the Pacific Northwest, we know what that means. There's an inland sea here, one that stretches from Olympia Washington all the way to Glacier Bay Alaska. It's a sheltered area and one that is peaceful and mostly calm, not at all like the violent and often fearful 'outer' coast, where 30 waves often tear up the shoreline in winter storms.
The outer coast is much more painterly to me, has more vibrant colors, more atmospheric moisture and more dramatic views. Tide pools just brimming with colorful life, old-growth forests that come right down to the high-tide line. It's a painterly place.
