Forest Singer

It's a voice I hear often. Early morning before sunrise or just at dusk, when the deep shadows of our forest are dark, the song comes clear and loud. It begins low and then reappears on another pitch, probably continueing above what my human ears can hear. Weeze. Wheeze, wheeze, like a person whistling one note, then another. Again and again - possibly proclaiming that this little patch of woods belongs to this little thrush and no one else. It's a song that belongs here, in these green and black forests of the Pacific Northwest. I love it.
