That Wood Pile!
I left that wood too long, and now those logs were too dry to burn well. Now the garden nastursiums had taken over and were using the log pile for a ladder to the sun. The flowers were becoming part of our nightly dinner salads, so that woodpile was producing something, if not heat. Nastursiums taste peppery and wonderful.
Now the quail appeared, paused atop the pile, and the wood became something else again - a model for this painting.
